Know The Code
Skier & Rider Responsibility Code
• Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
• People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
• You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.
• Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
• Always use devices to prevent runaway equipment.
• Observe all posted signs & warnings. Keep off closed trails & out of closed areas.
• Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge & ability to load, ride and unload safely.
Watch the NSAA Know the Code Video HERE
We are a drone free zone. The use of unmanned aerial systems, or drones, is prohibited.
Uphill Policy
Black Mountain of Maine welcomes uphill skiing, split-boarding & snowshoeing at our resort. No sledding is allowed on the alpine hill. For everyone's safety, we ask that you adhere to the policy as described below:
• Uphill travel during and outside our normal operating hours is done solely at the individual's own risk. Any workers encountered outside normal operating hours are not ski patrol. No rescue services are available outside normal operating hours.
•  Individuals must purchase an uphill ticket, uphill season pass, day ticket or a regular alpine season pass. Uphill day tickets are $15. Seasonal uphill passes are available for $110. If you are not riding the lift, you may purchase any of the aforementioned passes at our ticket window, online (when available) or on our website. Participants must sign an acknowledgement of risk agreement before accessing the mountain. This form can be signed at our ticket window for seasonal use.
•  The Osekare trail is the only trail for uphill travel, unless otherwise designated by the trail report. The Osekare trail is not designated for downhill travel.
• Any trail with grooming or snowmaking is closed due to safety conditions.
• You must ensure that you remain visible at all times to downhill skier traffic.
• Management or Ski Patrol reserve the right to cancel or limit these uphill activities for any reason at their discretion.
• Overnight stays on the mountain are not permitted.
• Note: This uphill policy is not applicable to users of the Black & White hiking trail.
Backcountry Policy
• Anytime you are on or have entered Black Mountain of Maine property you will need to have either a ticket or a season pass.
• Ski at your own risk. Be aware if you leave Black Mountain of Maine ski area boundaries & become lost or injured you will need to call 911 for assistance. Black Mountain of Maine may be part of the initial response, but will only do so under the direction of outside agencies. Any parties requiring rescue involving outside state or government agencies will be charged rescue costs.
• Have knowledge of the daily trail report & check in with ski patrol regarding changing conditions.
• Have the required advanced skills.
• Have a couple of ski partners.
• Black Mountain is unique. We have a working relationship with neighboring landowners such as Mahoosuc Land Trust, as well as other landowners who allow multi use access to privately owned property. Know before you go. Be smart. Note: when we talk backcountry we mean off property/outside the skiing & riding boundary. When we talk sidecountry we are talking about areas within the Black Mountain of Maine property boundaries that are not marked with resort endorsed signage. This includes trails that are not marked or that may have been marked by a 3rd party. Resort endorsed signs are signs that meet NSAA standards: green backed signs with white letters & a circle denote beginner trails, blue backed signs with white letters denote intermediate trails & black backed signs with white letters denote expert trails. Any trail within our property boudary that is unmarked or marked by a 3rd party volunteer organization is considered sidecountry.
• Most of the backcountry terrain feeds back into the resort. Some does not. Know your terrain & plan a ride back to Black Mountain Ski Resort if necessary.
• Watch for hazards. The woods are littered with rocks, stumps, fallen trees & other objects that can damage you & your equipment.
• Ski & ride in groups of three. If someone gets hurt, you'll need one person to fetch help & the other to stay with the injured. Radios & cell phones should be carried.
• We don't ever sweep the backcountry. Getting lost sucks. Getting lost at night really sucks.
• Wear a helmet. We won't make you, but the best (& smartest) already have them on.
• Respect your ability level. If you're wondering whether or not you should attempt something, then the answer is "no".
• Dogs are not allowed on downhill trails.
• All dogs must be on a leash & under control at all times.
• Please pick up after your pet.
• Only service dogs are allowed inside the lodge.
• Fatbikes are welcomed on our nordic trails between the hours of 9:00am-4:00pm on non nordic race days when the temperature is below 30°
• You must purchase a ticket ($15) or a valid nordic, uphill or alpine season pass
• Yield to slower traffic & nordic skiers
• Please use care not to ride over any set tracks
• Be sure to check the Chisholm Ski Club calendar for scheduled nordic races
We are fortunate to have over 600 acres outside for you to enjoy.
