Chisholm Ski Club Junior Alpine Race Development Program

For the second year, Black Mountain of Maine, the Chisholm Ski Club and the University of Maine at Farmington Ski Industries Program have teamed up to offer a Junior USSA Alpine race program for J3, J4 and J5 level racers, ages 9 to 14.

This program is designed for the young alpine racer interested in a commitment to progressing within the U.S. Ski Association (USSA) system of development.  As such, the athlete's family must be prepared to travel and support their son or daughter's athletic goals.  All CSC members must be members of the Maine Alpine Racing Association (MARA) and USSA.  There are midweek and weekend training opportunities. Weekend training will take place at Black Mountain and Saddleback, depending on weather, snow conditions and race events. Midweek training will be Wednesday nights and some Friday nights from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Black Mountain. The weekend training hours will be from 8:30 - 2:30.

The program begins with fall conditioning and physical testing in October.  The athletes will be sent a conditioning program that they can incorporate into their fall sports activities.  The athletes are invited to gather once per month in the fall for a physical assessment testing session.  There is also an early season ski training camp opportunity in Colorado for those interested.  When there are good early season ski conditions at Sugarloaf and Sunday River the team will do on snow training fundamentals at those sites.  There will be a four day Christmas camp at Saddleback December 26 through 29.   The program ends the first weekend in April to include post season regional events and spring races. The Chisholm Ski Club also offers financial support to club members in good standing who qualify for championship events.

Ron Bonnevie, Head of Coaches' Education for UMF, has over 25 years of ski coaching experience and holds a Master's Degree in Physical Education. His credentials include: USSA International certification, PSIA certification, FIS Technical Delegate certification, fifteen years as a USSA Coaches' Education coordinator and examiner. He has experience working with skiers of all ages and abilities, ranging from beginners to world cup athletes.
Assisting Bonnevie, will be his assistant coaches Chris Auty and Todd Richard.
