For over 30 years Black Mountain has been acknowledged as one of the finest Nordic skiing facilities for recreation and competition in North America. Black Mountain's trails were developed by Rumford's Chummy Broomhall, a two-time Olympian, designer of the Lake Placid and Squaw Valley Olympic cross-country trails and Nordic snow grooming pioneer. Black Mountain of Maine has hosted many of today's US Olympic Team skiers as the site of the 2003 and 2004 Chevrolet US Cross Country Championships, as well as many other noteworthy regional races. Black Mountain of Maine's 17 kilometers of trails, with snowmaking on 4 kilometers, have something to offer for all abilities. Trails are groomed, whenever possible, for both skating and classic techniques. During competitions, the spectator bridge at the lodge provides a great vantage point to view, cheer, and take photos. Finally, we are often asked if people can snowshoe on our Nordic trails. We don't just allow it...we encourage it! Please check our schedule and conditions or call the lodge at (207) 364-8977 for updates
